Snorkelling Unescorted

Daily we had the pleasure of snorkelling unescorted out over the Baros Maldives coral house reef circling its island.

Growing up on the beach as we did, our daily snorkelling adventures filled our souls with sun, sand and snorkelling happy vibes.

Even on a rainy day, the visibility ten metres below the surface of the water was not overly affected.

An afternoon tropical rainfall no doubt helped stir up the particles for a marine fish-feeding frenzy, providing us with our best snorkelling day EVER!

Baros Marine Centre

The Baros Marine Centre provides guided private snorkelling experiences on certain days of the week — from snorkelling safari boat tours to night snorkelling for small groups to tailor-made diving excursions to other nature and marine educational activities — plenty of over and underwater activities to put a smile on your dial.

There are 32 dive sites within just 30 minutes cruise by dive boat from the jetty at Baros Maldives.

Besides snorkelling and diving, the Baros Marine Centre offers its guests endless water sports activities for hire. From stand-up paddleboarding to transparent kayak canoeing to water skiing and wakeboarding, to fun ride tube, and windsurfing and catamaran — enough adrenaline outdoors fun in the Maldivian sun for each day of the week!

It became a daily ritual and a fun game reviewing our video and camera footage for all the new marine life we had discovered.

You can identify the names of the marine species you encounter against the wall charts at the Baros Marine Centre.

Several resident sea turtles have nicknames, and by day three, we had met Arnie and Sparky. Similarly to a zebra with unique stripes, the Marine biology staff quickly identified who was in the picture, “Oh, that turtle is Arnie, a regular visitor!” they stated.

In a Clownfish couple, when the female dies, the male will change sex rather than find another female and then pair up with a single male clownfish.

The life span of a Reef Shark is approximately 30 years, while a Whale Shark may live up to 150 years of age.

Some fish can change their colour with mood, such as developing stronger colours before spawning.

At any time of the year, there are 10 to 12 different species of whales and dolphins that call the coral reefs of the Maldives their home.
